Life at Chaffers
What it is actually like to keep a boat here: a sheltered berth in the inner harbour, a boat lift and approved contractors on hand, and the capital starting at the end of the pier.
Chaffers Marina and the city, from Mt Victoria.
An ordinary day, from the dock
Provisioning, a day’s work on the boat, dinner in town and a Sunday across the harbour, all without moving the car.
Coffee, then the market
Waitangi Park is two minutes from the gate, with the Sunday market and the waterfront walkway running past the marina into town.
Work on the boat
A 35-tonne boat lift, shore power at every berth and a list of approved riggers, engineers and painters who already know the piers.
Dinner, theatre, home by ten
Courtenay Place is seven minutes on foot and the St James eight. No taxi home, just the walk back down the waterfront.
Slip the lines
Matiu / Somes Island, Days Bay and the Eastbourne beaches are an afternoon’s sail across the harbour, and open water is straight out the entrance.
Your street is the waterfront
Walking times are measured from the marina gate. Tap a pin to see what it is and how long it takes, or filter by on foot, short drive or by water.

More than 50 residents live aboard at Chaffers, and the option is open to every berth type, owned or rented, with approval from the office.
