Privacy policy
How Chaffers Marina Ltd collects, uses and protects your personal information under the Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
Chaffers Marina Ltd operates Chaffers Marina on Clyde Quay Wharf, Wellington. When this policy says “we” or “us”, it means Chaffers Marina Ltd.
What we collect
- Contact details: name, email, phone and postal address.
- Vessel details: name, dimensions, registration, insurance, EWoF and hull documents.
- Berth, licence and account information for licensees, tenants and live-aboard residents.
- Anything you include in an enquiry, email or phone call.
- CCTV footage recorded around the marina, and records of when electronic gate keys are used, for safety and security.
Information we get from others
Sometimes we receive your information from someone else, for example:
- a berth seller or their agent, when you’re buying a berth
- a licensee, when they rent their berth to you through the office
- your employer, when you’re a contractor working at the marina
- a vessel agent, when they book a berth on behalf of a vessel.
We use this information for the same purposes set out below, and handle it the same way as information you give us directly. If you’d like to know what we hold and where it came from, contact our privacy officer.
How we use it
We use your information to answer enquiries, allocate and manage berths, run the boat lift, invoice fees, keep the marina safe and secure, and send marina notices and newsletters to berth holders. You can unsubscribe from newsletters at any time. We don’t sell your information.
Who we share it with
Only where needed: our board (for berth sales and approvals), insurers, service providers who help us run the marina, debt collection agencies where fees remain unpaid, and emergency services or authorities where the law requires or allows it.
Our website
When you send an enquiry through our website, the details you enter are stored securely in our website system and emailed to the marina office. Our website security software records IP addresses to protect the site from misuse. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. Our Contact page includes a Google map, and Google may collect information when you view it, under Google’s own privacy policy.
Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure and hold it only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as required by law. Some of our systems, such as email and file storage, are provided by Microsoft 365 and may store information outside New Zealand, with comparable privacy protections. CCTV footage is kept for a limited period and viewed only when there’s a reason to.
Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach is likely to cause someone serious harm, we will notify the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable.
Access and correction
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Contact our privacy officer and we’ll respond within 20 working days.
