As the days get shorter, a few simple precautions make a real difference to everyone’s safety at the marina.
Keep the piers and fingers clear
Please keep piers and fingers clear of waste, equipment and other hazards at all times. Clear walkways matter even more in low light. If you notice a hazard or an unsafe condition, report it to the marina office.
Guests on board
Guests who are new to the marina may not see risks that regular users take for granted. Before they step onto the pier, give them a quick briefing: the layout of the marina and which areas they can use, hazards such as uneven surfaces, gaps between fingers and low light, and the marina’s basic rules on noise and access.
If you fall in
- Stay calm: control your breathing and save your energy.
- Call for help: shout and make as much noise as you can.
- Use nearby boats: hold on to a vessel to stay afloat. Many have ladders on the hull that you can use to climb out.
- Use a rope or hose: someone on the pier can throw you a rope or a fire hose to pull you in or hold you steady.
- Knock on the hull: someone living on board may hear you and help or call for help.
- Look for a life ring: life rings are placed along the marina. Take a moment to learn where they are.
Thank you for helping keep Chaffers Marina safe for everyone.
