With summer approaching and more activity on the piers, here are a few things to keep in mind.
New lifejacket rules
From 9 October 2026, everyone on board a recreational craft of six metres or less must wear a properly fitted lifejacket whenever the craft is underway, meaning it is not at anchor, tied up or aground. This includes tenders, dinghies, kayaks and paddleboards. A few exemptions apply; see Maritime NZ for the details.
Around the marina
- Walkways: keep walkways and fingers clear of hoses, power leads and gear.
- Lifejackets on the piers: we recommend wearing a lifejacket when working on or around your vessel, and that children wear one at all times on the piers.
- Reporting: report any hazards, incidents or near misses to the marina office.
New safety ladders
New water egress ladders have arrived and will be installed across all five piers. They give anyone who falls into the water a way back onto the pier. We will post an update once installation is complete.
