Staying safe around the marina

The piers and walkway can be slippery, especially in the cooler months, and the harbour is cold enough that a fall becomes serious very quickly. Whether you berth here, live aboard or are visiting, a few reminders:

  • Watch your footing: take care on wet or frosty decking, and don’t rush on the piers
  • Wear a life jacket: when moving about the marina alone at night or in poor weather. Children should wear one at all times on the piers and on board
  • Supervise children and visitors: keep children within arm’s reach, and make sure visitors know the rules
  • Keep walkways clear: store gear, hoses and lines so they aren’t a trip hazard, and secure loose items in wind
  • Don’t work alone after hours: let someone know where you are and when you expect to finish
  • Report hazards: tell the office about damaged decking, faulty lighting or anything else that looks unsafe

Ladders coming to every pier: as part of our water safety review, we’re installing detachable ladders on each pier, so anyone who ends up in the water can climb back out. We’re waiting on delivery from the manufacturer and will confirm the installation date once they arrive. We’ll also run a session showing where the ladders are and how to use them.
